AYLF News Letter 2nd Edition 2023

Over the years, we have witnessed an increase in women leaders at all levels of society but most importantly an increase in the quality of leadership. It is no secret that women have brought excellence to the leadership of this Nation. Ask yourself though, how many of us take on more than we should? It’s problematic when we spread ourselves too thin because it prevents us from performing at our best. When this occurs, excellence gets moved down the priority list, reducing our momentum.

By definition, Excellence is an attitude or a habit of constantly striving to be better and to make the most out of life. It is a good way of self-growth. During the journey, you’re committed to quality in all aspects of life, from the classroom to the workplace and beyond. It’s about taking a proactive approach to learning and development, setting high standards for yourself, and having an ethical mindset that ensures you’re doing what is right and necessary to reach success. In this edition, we continue to draw inspiration from different exceptional women as we learn how they strive for excellence in the different aspects of their lives. AYLF News Letter 1st Edition 2023

Over the years, leadership education has morphed into a set of complex principles that often times seem possible for only an elite and dedicated minority. While this progression isn’t necessarily a “bad” outcome, it has inadvertently drawn attention away from the simple essential practices that make a quality and exceptional human being.

What I would love to call the “essential and basic practices” of any- one seeking to be an above-average human let alone a leader. In this edition of the AYLF Newsletter, we challenge our leaders to step back from the accumulation of complex knowledge and reflect on the essential skills and practices that make them leaders in the real sense.
“It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” -John Wooden, Basketball Coach

AYLF NEWSLETTER 2ND EDITION

Welcome to the third edition of the AYLF-Uganda Newsletter for the year 2022. Our theme for this edition is “Building Resilience”. The last 2 years have been quite harsh especially for young people in Uganda. The Pandemic, Global wars and the resultant economic crisis, disruptions in education and businesses have left the young people in this country disproportionately affected. Young leaders find themselves re- sponsible for a more disillusioned, sad, anxious and discouraged young population in and out of institutions of higher learning. More than ever, the young people need an infusion of hope and encouragement to be able to; Bounce back after the difficult times, deal with challenges with their heads held up, give things a go and continue trying their best, be strong on the inside and be able to cope with what life has thrown at them.

“When we learn how to become resilient, we learn how to embrace the beautifully broad spectrum of the human experience.” – David Gatete

AYLF AUG-DEC NEWSLETTER 2022

Africa Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) is a collaborative initiative conceptualized and initiated in 2007 by a group of friends in Af- rica with a dream that leaders in Africa will know how to reconcile relationships, speak the truth without be- ing religious or divisive, see people without labels or stereotypes and ultimately love each other and those whom they lead. Our aim is to nurture a new breed of leaders who will transform the leadership culture in the communities they live in. We achieve this by reaching out to student leaders through mentoring programs set up in Universities cross the East African Region.

“My desire to use leadership as a way to help others and not gain as an individual grew.” – BAKIIZA ASHER
